ABOUT THE FOUNDERS:

Joe Piela ’95 co-Captain of the 1994 team, and a member of two state championship teams (’92 and ’93).  Earned First-Team All-State and Honorable Mention All-American honors as a defensive back in 1994.  A born leader, Joe was also the captain of the Varsity Baseball and Wrestling teams in his senior season.  He has the distinct honor of being named First-Team All-County in all three sports in a single season.  Joe went on to continue his success at the University of Pennsylvania, attending the Wharton School of Business.  He earned 4 varsity letters for the Quakers, starting for 3 seasons at DB, and was Captain in his senior season, helping lead Penn to the 1998 Ivy-League Championship, while earning unanimous First-Team All-Ivy honors, setting the Ivy-league single season record for punt returns yards and being named as the team’s Defensive MVP.  Upon graduating from the Wharton School Joe began a successful career in finance and currently works as a financial advisor for one of the largest independent wealth management firms in New Jersey.

Rich Scanlon ’99 co-Captain of the 1998 team, and a member of two state championship teams (’96 and ’98).  Earned First-Team All-State, All-County, All-League and was named the New Jersey Defensive Player of the Year by The Star Ledger.  Rich went on to continue his success at Syracuse University, earning 4 varsity letters and a starting role for 3 seasons at linebacker.  During his time at Cuse he was often recognized for his accomplishments on and off the field, including a 3x CoSIDA Academic All-American.  In 2004, Rich was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Kansas City Chiefs.  After 5 seasons in the NFL, and a NFL Europe Defensive MVP award he decided to hang up his cleats and head back to school, this time the Wharton School of Business.  Rich has spent the majority of his second career as a software executive, currently serving as CEO of a technology company in Raleigh, NC.
