JV Soccer Photo Finish

9/26/2026 3:57:00 PM

SEPTEMBER 26– ORADELL, NJ – It's probably not the type of photo finish you're thinking of, but if you were there, you know just what I'm talking about.
BC hosted Bergen Tech on a rainy, windy, early Saturday morning and fought hard, ultimately losing 3-1.
The Black Knights came out firing, scoring a goal in the second minute of the game to go up one-nil.  BC tied the score in the 13th minute off a free kick from Liam Fenton that was saved/hit the cross bar and followed by a header into the net by David Agnew.  From there, the teams played scoreless soccer through the end of the half and into the last 10 minutes of play, Jun Lee made 3 saves.  Bergen Tech scored to take the lead and their entire team rushed the field.  If you don't think the name "Bergen Catholic" holds immense respect among those opponents, that was all you needed to see.
But it was actually outdone.  After Tech won the game, they took a team photo at midfield on The Jack.
Now I understand some people took it as a lack of respect. Honestly, I thought it was just the opposite.  If a victory at BC wasn't valuable, no one would care or try to memorialize it.
In the end, there is a great lesson to learn. We are still BC and nothing tragic occurred.  Who knows?  Maybe there will be another opportunity to compete in the county tournament?  Until that time, make the most of every practice and game to prepare and make the most of it.  Then, if it's the finals and only the finals, we can take our pictures.  We are BC!  We don't measure success comparing ourselves with anyone else.
