MAY 28 – RAMSEY, NJ – We first need to congratulate DBP on a fine season and thank them for moving the time of the game up to 1:00 PM in order for our seniors to be able to make it to Baccalaureate Mass on Thursday evening. A lesser opponent would not have done as such and to have a worthy opponent who respects your values, it must be recognized.
Onto reflecting upon one of the outstanding performances in BC history. Sophomore
Jael Santos took the rock on Thursday afternoon in hostile territory and started throwing gas! Mr. McGovern commented to me that he heard the first pop of the catcher's mitt and said to himself, "What was that?!?"
That was Jael, who was about to throw six innings of no-hit baseball. He cruised through the Ironman lineup right up to the bottom of the seventh when DBP would finally nick him. A walk, followed up by a home run, cut the BC 4-0 lead in half, but Jael finished the game in just 87 pitches, striking out 6, yielding just two hits as his teammates played solid defense behind him, committing no errors.
Thomas Harmke and
Daniel Graziano were two of the offensive stars, each knocking home two runs and Santos helped himself out, scoring a run on a hit and a pair of walks.
BC is off to the semifinal round of the Non-Public "A" Tournament on Tuesday at DePaul Catholic in Wayne.
