MARCH 28 – ORADELL, NJ – "RADON!" It was a defensive call that Fordham Prep Head Coach used with BC when he served as BC's defensive coordinator in the mid 2010s. It meant to press out adjacent on all attackers.
BC Coach Frankie Feaster remembered that call, using it to his advantage with just 27 seconds remaining in the half and BC trailing 5-4. But I digress, let's set the scene a little more perfectly.
With the Crusaders down 5-1, under four minutes remained in the half. Liam Erickson worked against his defender and scored on a quick right-handed re-dodge on the wing with 3:42 to cut the Ram lead to 5-2.
Joe Angeli cut the lead to 5-3 just 26 seconds later as Bronx cheers were heard yelling "you're losing!" in the bleachers. Suffice it to say, we did not hear those cheers again.
Fast forward to perfect tic-tac-toe passing finished a fast break off a broken clear.
Dylan Usatine found
Jack Gonzalez all alone cutting on the crease. Gonzalez threw a face-dodge fake and finished the ball with just 31 seconds remaining.
Alexander Tsay, dominating the face offs, won the ensuing draw and Coach Feaster used his last time out of the half.
On the restart, Liam Erickson sped down the left wing driving past his man, forcing a slide from the crease. But as all other defenders were pressed out, no one was left to help on the crease as a second slide, leaving Chris Ricciardi all alone. He changed over to his left hand and caught and finished it, tying the score and giving BC all the momentum in the world as they entered the halftime break.
Dylan Usatine recorded his first career hat trick and second four-point game.
Jack Gonzalez scored four of his own with a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
Alexander Tsay dominated the face off x, winning 77% and Bucher saved nine of seventeen Ram shots on goal.
As the sun set, BC won 11-8 at the Jack on a sunny, but windy, March Saturday afternoon. Class dismissed.
