FEBRUARY 8 – HACKESACK, NJ – The Crusader Basketball Team won its 20th contest of the season, improving to 20-3 with a 77-39 victory over Northern Highlands. The game was the quarterfinal round of the Oscar F. Thompson Jamboree held Bogota Savings Bank Center on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University on Sunday afternoon.
The top-seeded Crusaders jumped out to an early lead against the 8
th-seeded Highlanders, nearly putting the game into running-clock mode by halftime. With the kickoff of Super Bowl LX game looming at 6:30, they may have had motivation at one of the most sparsely attended Jamboree games I have ever seen, though Mr. McGovern, Mr. Tedeschi, Dr. Spiegel and Dr. Mahoney provided representation for the Crusader Crazies, taking up some of the baseline bleachers.
Julius Avent led all scorers with 17 points including two-for-two shooting from the line. His three field goals and three treys led all BC scorers as well. BC was 6-for-6 from the line and enjoyed strong offensive games from
Kieran Quinn (10 points) and
Marcus Brown (10 points and a career high).
The Crusaders will face 4
th-seeded Teaneck (who defeated Cresskill) next Sunday, February 15
th at FDU in the semifinal round. Second-seeded Tenafly defeated DBP in their quarterfinal game. The Tigers will face St. Mary's (Rutherford), who defeated Hackensack, on the bottom half of the bracket.
