FEBRUARY 19 – MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Crusaders traveled to Delbarton School on Thursday night in the Non-Public "A" State Semifinal to face the state's #1 ranked Green Wave. BC earned some early victories in the match, but ultimately, the home D had too much depth and experience, winning 37-15.
Freshman
Anthony Riotto earned a 7-2 decision to open the match at his 113-pound bout, giving BC a 3-0 lead. After a couple of Delbarton wins,
Lucas Reeves earned a 2-1 decision to cut the lead to 8-6.
Gideon Gonzalez, now wrestling at 138 pounds, defeated his opponent to give BC a 9-8 advantage through five bouts. The streak would end there, as Delbarton won four in a row until AJ DiGiovanni won with a 7-3 decision at 175 pounds. Senior
Chad Sadaka, Jr. followed that up by earning a victory by decision at 190, cutting the Delbarton lead to 25-15. That would be the end of BC's wins however as the Green Wave took the final three bouts.
In talking with Coach Santoli, he remarked how he felt his wrestlers competed with confidence and are showing growth in mental and physical toughness. With a strong group of younger athletes, an fine incoming class and the leadership the seniors have provided, he is looking forward to BC's continued progress toward a championship.
