When You're Hot, You're Hot

Crusader Depth Teams Up to Cook Colts

1/15/2026 9:57:00 AM

JANUARY 14 – ORADELL, NJ - In a meeting between two of New Jersey's finest basketball teams, the #4 ranked CBA Colts visited Hoehl Gymnasium for the first time in 10 years to face BC in a BIG JERS Showcase match-up.  Entering the game, #2 BC had not beaten CBA in four attempts with hopes this game would be different.
Senior Julius Avent started the Crusaders off with BC's first ten points in the first quarter as the Crusaders built a 25-20 lead.  Avent and Jaden Brown continued to lead the Crusaders scoring punch, each finishing with 23 points.  Avent picked up his fourth double-double of the season, dominating the boards with 15 rebounds.
Junior guard Alex Mazzella was hot in the second quarter, scoring 7 of his 11 points as BC outscored their guests 29-15 in the second period.  The Colts were able to cut the BC lead to 10 in the third quarter, but BC began to extend their lead heading into the final period. Jaden Brown tied for the game-high with 23 points, but the story of the night was Julius Avent's double-double, finishing with 15 rebounds and 23 points.
Sophomore guard Sean Forbes was dynamic throughout the evening contributing 9 points and 7 assists, finishing 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.  Classmate Brandon McMillan (Bridgee) was also a major presence, grabbing the first defensive board of the game, on his way to six on the game.
Kieran Quinn had his best game as a Crusader scoring 10 points and together with Luka Kuqo and Owen Wucherpfennig (4 points apiece) all played crucial roles in taking away Colt outside shooters' vision with their 6'8 length and tremendous arm-spans.
The last two points of the game were a last-minute massive dunk by Avent that was an exclamation point not only on BC's first victory over CBA, but also Avent's 1,000th Career Point!  Congratulations to Julius on becoming the 19th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
