ORADELL, NJ - The Crusader Varsity Soccer Team improved to 2-0 on the new season, defeating the Knights of Old Bridge HS 1-0. Senior striker
James Melia scored the game winner with 3:05 remaining in the game to create the margin of victory. Both defenses were stellar throughout the afternoon which saw a very nice Saturday crowd, refreshments and swag shop for the home Crusaders.
The first half was just what you would expect between central and north Jersey squads. Gritty, hard-nosed soccer with yellow cards all around. As the game proceeded through the second half, it was clear the state's #13-ranked Crusaders were in superior condition. The Knights began cramping, unable to keep up with the pressure BC's forwards were putting on them. Ultimately, D'Angelo Tavarez took a hard shot, saved by the Knight keeper and Melia positioned himself well for the rebound and to finish the ball in the back of the net.
