Frosh Tie Ironmen in Home Opener

Max Rivarola's Two Headers Tie it Up

9/10/2025 9:07:00 PM

ORADELL, NJ - On Tuesday, September 9, with nice sunny weather with some clouds, our Bergen Catholic Freshman Soccer Team gave the Don Bosco Freshman Soccer Team a challenge with a 2-2 game at the Jack.

The game started with a close chance for Don Bosco that was deflected by our defense. Both teams had many chances as both goalies made a number of good saves.  After lots of push from both teams, Don Bosco scored the first goal with about 10 minutes left in the first half. Bergen then pushed through the rest of the half through the defense, trying to score an equalizer before the half ended. The defense successfully defended any other chance after the first goal for Bosco. There were about four great chances for each side in the first half. Players on the Bergen Catholic side such as Nate Oltmanns, Billy Trimble, Jack Houston, and Max Rivarola all played exceptionally well in the half and were unfortunate to not score before the end of the first half. After a few more chances for Bergen that unfortunately weren't converted, the first half ended 1-0 to Bosco.

After a ten minute halftime break with tactical changes for each team, the second half began with a chance straight away for Bergen, which was saved. A shot taken far by Max Rivarola was super close, but the ball just nearly missed the target. A bunch of chances flew as both sides were looking for goals. Bergen then received a corner after a Don Bosco defender cleared the ball out of harm's way from a great chance for Bergen. Max Rivarola would then score an equalizer for Bergen Catholic with the corner taken by Nate Oltmanns, as Maxon Rivarola connected on a header to the left side of the net.

Shortly after the Crusaders would misplay the ball, leading to another goal for Don Bosco, putting the Ironmen on top 2-1 in the 62nd minute of the game.  With both teams looking for goals, the game got shakier and crazier by the second.  A Don Bosco defender made a tackle leading the ball to being out on the end line, BC won a corner with only minutes left in the match.  As the corner is lifted into the box by Jack Houston, Maxon Rivarola headed the ball with an identical goal as his first and equalizes the game again for Bergen making it 2-2 with just 13 minutes left.

Sharp chances from both teams would see one of them try and win the game for their team, but after a heavy last bit of the half, the game would end 2-2. This game would end with a brace from Maxon Rivarola, an assist from Jack Houston, and an assist from Nate Oltmanns. Our defenders and goalie kept out a lot of chances, despite two goals scored. Jack Houston, Landon Restaino, and Nate Oltmanns played exceptionally well going up with the attack and created lots of chances for the team. That is your final review for the game between the Don Bosco Freshman Soccer Team and the Bergen Catholic Freshman Soccer Team.

The next Freshman Soccer Game will be against St. Joseph away, and the next time Freshman teams Don Bosco and Bergen Catholic will face each other again will be on Monday, October 6 at Don Bosco. Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
