RAMSEY, NJ - The Bergen Catholic Freshman Soccer Team took on Don Bosco Prep on Monday in a clash of two great rivals. After two halves of competitive play, the game ended 4-3 in favor of Bergen Catholic.
The game would kickoff, with Bergen Catholic fighting with their hearts to score. Bergen Catholic scored the first goal with
Jorge Tuesta playing the ball to
Nate Oltmanns, who took it, dribbled through traffic and placed it in the far-right corner, leaving the keeper with no chance to save it. That made it 1-0 in favor of BC.
Both teams placed pressure on each other, with each having moments on the attack. BC made it 2-0 after
Nate Oltmanns, found Maxon Rivarola with a sharp pass. Rivarola hit a well-placed shot that would slip through the keeper's grip. Shortly after, the Crusaders scored another goal! The goals just kept coming in this game as
Jack Houston would play the corner into the box, leading
Liam Fenton who converted it into a power header. The ball smashed into the net to make it 3-0. The half ended shortly after the third goal, with Bergen controlling the game completely and Bosco needing to regroup and rethink.
After taking their breaks at halftime the two teams took the field with BC striving to hold the lead. Don Bosco cut the lead to two goals, keeping them in the game. However, the Ironmen quickly conceded another one. Oltmanns dribbled the ball on the wing after a pass from
Jorge Tuesta. He took a shot that was saved by the keeper, and
Billy Trimble followed the rebound and drove it into the roof of the net to extend the lead to three once again.
The lead would slip for a period of time as Don Bosco would recover two goals, making it 4-3. After multiple chances that Don Bosco defended, the game ended 4-3, with Bergen Catholic taking the win.
The next game for Bergen Catholic Freshman Soccer is against St. Joseph. Live Jesus in our hearts, forever.
