ORADELL, NJ - The Crusader Varsity Soccer Team was playing it very close to the vest throughout the first half with their most-played rival, Don Bosco Prep. With just under 2:15 to play in the first half, the Ironmen had a free kick from their half of the field. The ball sailed to the Crusader 8-yard line where a cutting Don headed the ball past a waiting
John Coleman, who had already saved six shots in the half.
James Melia scored in the second minute of the second half off some very nice tic-tac-toe passing that crossed from the right side of the field to the left wing where
Andrew Coyne centered a pass to Melia, who took his time and buried the shot.
Frank Burns drove a free kick from five yards inside the midfield line that was converted into a goal by
John Semelsberger in the game's sixty-sixth minute, giving BC a 2-1 lead.
Liam Agans scored in the seventy-fifth minute off a feed from Semelsberger to put the game on ice, giving the Crusaders a 3-1 victory.
The Crusaders improved to 8-2-1 on the season and a perfect 6-0 at the Jack. With the win, BC continues a 5-game winning streak over their rival and has evened their home record vs. Don Bosco Prep at 17-17-5. BC extends their lead in the BNC United Red Division with a 5-1 record. DePaul Catholic stands in second place at 3-2-1, Don Bosco Prep in third (3-3), followed by St. Joseph Regional (2-2-1) and Paramus Catholic (0-5).
The BC-DBP dates back to October 1, 1974 in a game that finished 1-1. The Crusader ten had other ideas in 2025.
