2025 CRUSADERS AT A GLANCE.
The Crusaders enter today's game under the direction of Head Coach, Vito Campanile, the eleventh coach in program history.  BC is currently 6-1 on the season.  The Crusaders opened the year defeating three consecutive defending state champions.  They improved to 4-0 after a victory over Pope John XXIII, then fell to Don Bosco Prep on a Ramsey Friday night.  BC won its last two games, posting 87 points on the board.  Today will provide a strong test for the Crusaders as they prepare for the playoffs.

VITO VENIT VIDIT VICIT
Coach Campanile came, saw and conquered.  His record at the helm of the scarlet and gold is now a gaudy 71-12 (.855 winning percentage) through his first seven plus years.

TOTALS 71 12 .855
Coach Campanile took the helm at Bergen Catholic in 2018, succeeding brother, Nunzio, who led BC to a state championship in 2017.  Coach Vito immediately found success during the 2018 season, leading BC to the state final before the Crusaders were upset by St. Joseph Regional at MetLife Stadium.
Following a five-and-four 2019 campaign, Covid-19 prevented Campanile's #1-ranked Crusaders from pursuing a state championship as the state tournament was cancelled for the season.
In 2021, Coach Campanile led BC to its 18th state championship and second-ever 12-0 record.  The Crusaders were the class of the state of New Jersey and earned the school's highest ever ranking to date of #3 in the country.  The Crusaders have gone on to winning championships ever since, defeating Don Bosco Prep in 2021, 2022 and 2024 and defeating Delbarton School in 2023, all at Metlife Stadium.
In recognition of his commitment to excellence and leadership, Coach Campanile was recognized by the USAToday as the Nation's High School Boys Coach of the Year.
In his 18-year head coaching career, Coach Campanile has a record of 154-62 (a .713 winning percentage).

THE CRUSADERS ON OFFENSE
It is nearly impossible to imagine the production the Crusaders would get out of the QB spot this year, after graduating at three-year starter at the position and starting a sophomore.  That said, #12 Trey Tagliaferri is playing like anything but a sophomore.  He has completed 96 passes for 1,753 yards and 19 touchdowns.  That alone is a remarkable line.  But the fact that he has only one interception in his first eight starts, against likely the most challenging schedule in New Jersey?  That's surreal.
Freshman phenom #17 Walker Snee was unavailable to play in last week's game due to an injury sustained in the JV game vs. Delbarton. He has proven to be a major threat as a runner, recording 2 touchdowns on 25 carries.  He averages 7.8 yards per touch, forcing opponents to respect him not only as a major-league passer, but deadly running threat as well.  More than that, he's a friend to his classmates playing freshman ball.  It shows a lot of character for a young man to show up like that, especially if his team played on a Friday night!
Speedy junior #15 Aidan Talley and sophomore passer #16 Ralph Tristani are both demonstrating excellent performance when their numbers are called.  Tristani ran for a TD and threw for a TD in last week's JV game and completed a 2-point conversion pass to boot.
Senior running back #6 Najee Calhoun is the Crusaders' top rusher, carrying 102 time for 549 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.  In last week's game against SJR, he had his second 100-yard rushing game of the season.  BC faithful love the sound of that as Najee got into a late season groove last year, rushing for over 100 yards in each of the final five games.
Senior running back #1 Dante Kain.  He currently has 251 yards on the season, averaging 5 yards per carry.  The senior had 14 career touchdowns and 1350 all-purpose yards.  He plans to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in the fall.
Coach Campanile sees this group as the finest group of receivers since he took the helm at BC with #4 Austin Busso (31 receptions, 706 yards, 22.8 per catch and 8 TDs) leading the way.  Busso averages 4 catches, 99 yards and 1.3 TDs per game.
Junior, #3 Bryan Porter pulled hauled in a personal best 6 catches last week.  He's had over 268 yards in the past two games with a pair of touchowns, bringing him to 6 on the season.  He is averaging 23.3 yards per catch on the season with 5 touchdowns.  Fellow junior #13 Anthony Willis (23 receptions 341 yards and 2 TDs on the season) rounding out the top three perimeter receivers.  #14 Jamel Hammary (7 catches, 61 yards and 2 TDs) and #19 Quinn Dunleavy (3 catches) also provide a threat to opposing secondaries.
Tough would describe the BC tight-ends.  Both #43 Jackson Kolomer and #87 JD Adamek are fierce blockers who possess good hands.  Add H-back, #44 Kaden Blount to your equation and BC can ground and pound with a wide variety of personnel groups.
Like all great offenses, the Crusaders' initiates on the offensive line where five seniors will start from tackle to tackle.  BC averages 6'2.5" and 290 pounds per man on the O-line in 2025.  Athletic #71 Rocco Costello brings three years of experience with him into his senior campaign.  He will be working alongside of #77 Mike McMahon at the guard position.  #50 Travis Nodelman anchors the line at the center position and #74 Harold Kang will play guard next to #55 Jack Harris who is returning to his tackle position.  Don't be surprised to see time with quality back-ups, #65 Hunter Gillon, #58 Luke George, #56 Eamonn Errity and freshman #75 Justin Golden.

300 PASSING YARDS CLUB!
IN 702 Crusader Varsity Football Games, only 6 quarterbacks have passed for 300 yards in one game for Bergen Catholic.  This feat has been accomplished 13 times, most recently by sophomore QB Trey Tagliaferri.  Trey became the first sophomore to do it when he passed for 331 against Delbarton.  Looks like he might have a good mentor...Coach Jon Germano is not only tops on this list, but is on it 6 times!

BERGEN CATHOLIC ON DEFENSE
Under the leadership of Tony DeBellis, Crusader defenses have been outstanding.  Winning 51 of their last 56 games.
The defensive line is a formidable, four-man unit.  Sophomore #0 Jackson Vaughn (6 sacks, 10 TFLs and 32 tackles) is one of the most sought-after sophomores in the country.  He is coming off a big game against SJR with 3 sacks and his 4.5 TFLs and 9 tackles were career highs.  #9 Kenneth Hackney (1 sack, 3 TFLs and 23 tackles) and Texas A&M commit #88 Jermaine Kinsler (2 TFLs, 30 tackles) along with DE #8 DeAndre Orgill (28 tackles) are major league space eaters.  Senior #95 Brandon Wilson made three tackles against SJR last week
#7 Joshua Cruz is currently leading the Crusaders with 53 tackles.  He has also forced a pair of fumbles and one interception on his 2025 record. #10 Mason Marck (28 tackles, 1 FR, 2 INTs) returns at the Mike linebacker.  #5 Tim Hogan (35 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 1 sack) starts at Will  linebacker.  Like Cruz and Marck, Hogan is extremely intelligent.  Sophomore #25 Nick Mauro (33 tackles, 2.5 TFLs and 1 sack) is an impact player for BC as well.
BC's defensive backfield is looking to prove itself this afternoon in West Orange.  Three-year starter and Ohio State commit #21 Jordan Thomas (8 career interceptions, 134 tackles, 16 PD and 1 blocked punt) will start at safety for the Crusaders.  Jordan has the ability to make the play at the most critical time.
Senior North Carolina commit #2 Xavier Jackson (57 career tackles, 3 takeaways including a pick-6) has been solid throughout the season.  #24 Tristan Herring is a strong tackler, with 13 on the season and classmate #27 Amar'e Newell (15 tackles, 2 INTs, 1 return for TD) is having a strong year as well.  This talented crew is joined by twin speedster sophomores #30 Amir Woodward (8 tackles) and #20 Adrian Woodward (13 tackles, 1 INT).

BERGEN CATHOLIC SPECIAL TEAMS
#42 Jacob Soltys is crushing the ball from his place-kicking position.  He for BC (32 for 33 on PATs with 2 field goals.  He is averaging about 70% kickoffs for touchbacks on the year. Punter #15 Aidan Talley (37.1 yards per punt) is having a strong year. #21  Jordan Thomas and Talley have gotten much more involved in the return game of late.

SETON HALL PREP PIRATES AT A GLANCE

FITZGERALDS FIGHTIN' PIRATES
The Pirates are coached by Mr. Bill Fitzgerald who has been at the helm of the ship since 2018.  In that time, his Pirates have achieved a record of 39-41, a .488 winning percentage.
Coach Fitzgerald's teams are well-coached and play hard, disciplined football.  He is hoping that will translate into solving the riddle of the Crusaders.

THE PIRATES ON OFFENSE
The Pirates have a pair of underclassmen QBs they have entrusted with commanding their offense.  Both have done a remarkable job not turning the ball over through the air and completion percentages are sound.  Yardage and scoring production is the area this team would like to improve.  Sophomore QB #1 Jaylin Bullock was 12 for 13 passing with 3 touchdowns last week in the Pirates' win over Irvington.  Expect him to start as he seems to be much more of threat with his feet than other options.  He has 5 TDs on the year and 375 yards passing.  Sophomore #19 Ty Newcomb is currently the team's leading passer with 453 yards and 6 touchdown passes.
Sophomore running back #21 Leonard West is a dual threat, leading the team in rushing and receiving.  Combined, West has 4 touchdowns on the season with 386 yards rushing and 205 receiving.  He averages 4.7 yards per carry and "He's only a sophomore!!!"
Senior running back #20 Bryce Robbins has 187 yards rushing and is the next most dangerous running threat before Bullock.  The top wide receiver target for Bullock is #3 Aiden Lockett who has 18 catches, 200 yards and 3 touchdowns on the season.  Add senior wide-out #4 Joe Proscia (9 catches for 187 yards and a score) and there are some weapons.

SHP ON DEFENSE
Junior Linebacker #29 Colin Moore leads the Pirates with 72 tackles on the season.  He has a pit-bull for a partner in senior #50 Michael Hug who has 64 tackles this year.  Senior linebacker #5 Owen Bednarski leads the team with 3 sacks in 2025 and four separate defenders have one interception each: Hug, sophomore DB #47 Anthony Vinhal, senior #18 Sean Hayes and junior DB #2 Taylor Daniels.

PREP SPECIAL TEAMS
Kicker #17 Declan Farrell is reliable as an extra point kicker, knocking 15 of his 16 attempts through the uprights this season.  He is 3 for

6 on field goals.  Farrell also punts for the team and is averaging right around 40 yards per punt.

BERGEN CATHOLIC VS. SETON HALL PREP
A GREAT NJ CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL RIVALRY SINCE 1961
The Crusaders are riding an 11-game win streak over the Pirates giving BC a 20-19-1 advantage in the series.  Coach Campanile and the Crusaders hope to make this, the longest winning streak by either school in the rivalry, going strong.  The 60's, 70's and into the 80's were tough sledding for BC, but the teams really didn't meet up from 1985 until 2001.  This has been our millennium as BC is 13-1 overall since the big party (1999).

Lift your banner to the sky
Sons of Scarlet, Sons of Gold
In honor, brave and bold
B for Bravery without guile
C for Catholic all the while
H for hearts until we're old
S for scarlet tinged with gold
Honor-bound we'll always be
Filled with real sincerity
