ORADELL, NJ – The home Crusader bleachers were inspired to see fan-favorite
John Flynn starting at center back on Senior Day at the Jack. After a very nice senior day celebration, the Crusaders defeated Passaic County Finalist, Passaic HS 4-3 in overtime.
Down one goal in the first half, junior
Liam Agans found senior
Kieran Ewers, who got the Crusaders on the board in the fifteenth minute with a low shot to the bottom left corner from 15 yards out.
Four minutes into the second half,
Jonah Shin moved the ball up along the right sideline to
Kieran Ewers. Ewers passed it into
James Melia who swept to his left and drove a low shot that was deflected past the keeper. That gave BC a 2-1 lead.
After the Indians tied the score once again,
Christian Doolan had a free kick that found its way to Will Tramontozzi. Tram found
James Melia, who had space, and beat his man on the wing and drove a right-footed shot high to the top right corner of the goal, putting BC up 3-2 with just under 6:00 remaining.
The feisty Indians were not finished and came back to tie the game just over a minute later. With the game knotted at 3, the teams took to the first overtime period.
The teams played fiercely, and finally, in the game's 87
th minute,
Jonah Kim drove a shot from the outside that was saved, but a heads-up D'Angelo Tavarez kicked the ball home for the victory.
Senior
Ian Chung played very well in the goal, saving four shots on net to earn the victory.
