LYNDHURST, NJ – The Crusader JV Soccer Team left Riverside Park disappointed on Wednesday night after falling 2-2 (4-3 pk) to Pascack Valley in the first round of the County JV Tournament. The loss snaps a two-year county championship streak for the team.
Santiago Hernandez opened the scoring with a free kick he drove from about 30 yards out. A two-man play with
Leandro Triana cutting first and faking a shot, followed by Hernandez was well executed. Pascack Valley tied the score and the two teams entered half time tied at one.
In the sixty-fifth minute, BC scored on a long kick.
Mathias Villegas drove a thirty-five-yard shot that hit the bottom of the cross bar and, with backspin, spun behind the Panther keeper and into the goal. Shortly after, the Panthers tied the score and the game proceeded to overtime.
Both teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods before proceeding to penalty kicks.
Ultimately, PV was able to net four out of five penalty kicks, while the Crusaders scored three times, deciding the game.
