BC vs. Leonia: Leonia upset the #9 seed, Ramsey and # 8 Glen Rock to advance to the quarterfinal round. Next up: Crusaders vs. Lions. The BC-Leonia rivalry dates back to 1974 when both matches ended in ties (1-1 and 2-2). BC won the next three match-ups in 1975, 1985 and 1987. This weekend's match will be the first meeting in 38 years.
Crusader Preview: Senior Attacker
James Melia is the Crusaders leading attacker with 21 points (8G, 5A) on the season. It is a well-balanced offense that can beat you in a myriad of ways with
Frankie Burns (4G, 5A), D'Angelo Tavarez (5G, 3A),
Liam Agans (5G, 2A) and 2024 team scoring leader
John Semelsberger (4G, 3A). Defensively, Mikey Fenton,
Drew Coyne and
Saif Khan anchor a cohesive unit in front of goal keeper
John Coleman who has turned away 35 shots on the year. BC is yielding only 1.2 goals per game while averaging 3.1 goals for per game.
Lions Preview: Leonia boasts a strong defense as well, posting numbers similar to that of the Crusaders, yielding just 1.2 goals per game and they are used to playing in close ball games (11 of 15 decisions have been one-goal matches). Brennan Cortez (6G, 4A) is the leading scorer for Leonia followed by David Aleksic (4G, 3A) for an offense that averages just 1.7 goals per game. But in a game where goals can come at a premium, any single slip can be costly.
